Fisher & Chris Lake: is this a fun combo?

Watching Indio: Head trip. We all know Fisher is a hell of a hype man. There’s nothing like watching him bounce behind the decks like a hyena in heat, licking the crowd with his signature tongue waggle, peeling stress off faces with his laughtery Aussie accent - the dude is serious energy. So serious that it sometimes begs the question - is his showmanship overtaking the actual skill on da boards man?

Paired here with Chris Lake (technically one of the most solid and tight electronic producers right now - who makes it look effortless), Fisher seems to presentate as more pumped to be up there than busy working on the board… or is he quite possibly the most playful genius of selektorism, providing the most hilarious set ups for his big bro Chris, who is then tasked with clarifying it back into that bassified perfection we expect from his professional ass?

It’s a little like watching my daughters learn to play together, the one year old wreaking havoc with her bumbling hands as the 3 yr old defends her iPad ferociously, while we teach her that what the world requires of her is to be gentle…

I quit it, Fisher isn’t a baby, and we know this. I love my daughters, and equally. In the same way I love Fisher and Chris Lake’s dynamic - a back and forth of Fishers quirky choices that get finagled back into Lake’s sonically pro show. He’s a real master of levelling up those wildflower tracks, steering the ship across friendly and fun seas, rewarding the crowd with a fairly smooth journey.

And, I could probably watch Fisher romp about up there - all day. We say yay - this? This is a fun combo.
